Headline Highlights

  • Condensed schedule due to Covid-19 including an 8-team playoff for each league
  • L.A. Dodgers win their first World Series title since 1988
  • Rule changes including DH in the National League, 7-inning double-headers, starting out extra innings with a runner in scoring position for the offensive team, etc. 
  • The “sign-stealing scandal” from previous seasons loses relevance amidst the pandemic
  • Minor League games shut down for the first time in over 100 years
  • Games played in empty stadiums with artificial sound and cardboard cutout fans to prevent large gatherings
  • Cleveland moves forward with rebrand, looks to change nickname following the 2021 season
  • Toronto Blue Jays and San Diego Padres live up to their billing as the most exciting teams in their respected leagues with impressive regular season finishes
  • Boston Red Sox meanwhile, fall off the face of the Earth finishing dead last in their division despite a quality roster
  • SP Shane Bieber dazzles throughout the regular season leading the league in most relevant pitching categories before eventually claiming the AL Cy Young Award

  • Signed Mookie Betts to a ridiculous 12-year $365 million dollar contract prior to the season, effectively ensuring his foothold in Dodger Stadium’s right field for the rest of his career (hopefully)
  • Cody Bellinger continued to look like a Ken Griffey Jr. clone, clobbering home runs from the left side of the plate while making plays in center with his crafty glove, speedster legs and bazooka arm
  • The “25 and under club” (including Bellinger, Walker Buehler, Gavin Lux, Will Smith, Julio Urias and Dustin May) all played fabulously adding tons of depth to the superstar pilings at the top
