Position Key

  • C Center
Occupying 1 of 3 forward skating positions, Centers (or Centerman) are the proverbial leaders of any offense as primary faceoff participants, play callers and goal scorers though they can also be effective on the defensive side
  • W = Wing
Taking up the other 2 forward positions on the right and left-hand side of the centerman, Wings mainly operate on the offensive end as scoring threats providing additional goal-centric opportunities for their team though they can also be effective on the defensive side
  • D Defenseman
Lining up along the blue line in 2 positions behind the 3 forwards, Defensemans’ foremost agenda is to patrol the area surrounding their goaltender to better dissuade opposing offensive players from scoring though they can also be effective on the offensive side
  • G Goaltender
Quite literally the final obstacle that stands between the puck and the net, Goaltenders (or Goalies) are unenviably tasked with blocking opposing goal attempts from reaching their destination by any means possible utilizing an arsenal of pads and other equipment to repel every kind of shot

Superficial Analysis

  • Color scheme: One of 2 teams containing the color “red” within their branding, the Red Sox incorporate a lot more blue in their uniforms than one would initially suspect not to mention are their socks even red???
  • Nickname coolness: I guess its kind of edgy to abbreviate the socks with the always cool letter x but I still can’t make sense as to why they’re named after an article of clothing that is basically un-emphasized but that’s baseball for ya

The ‘Tude Dude’s Opinion

  • Long associated with losing after the historic trade of arguably the greatest player who ever lived – Babe Ruth to their archrival New York Yankees, the Boston Red Sox finally shed their deplorable label of ineptitude by dispatching their nemesis in the 2004 American League Championship Series (becoming the first team in MLB history to win a 7 game series after losing the first 3 games) en route to their first World Series Championship in 86 years. How’s that for a story!? Since then, Boston has enjoyed a renaissance of success winning multiple championships while being supplied with one of the top payrolls in the league which has them positioned firmly at the top of baseball’s totem pole. Quite the turnaround for one of the league’s “lovable losers” who have always maintained national relevance thanks in large part to their built-in historical narrative. As ingrained into the fabric of baseball’s lore as any other franchise swinging the pine, the Boston Red Sox command respect as one of the true bastion’s of the sport.

  • Additional nickname(s): N/A
  • Historic associates: D Al MacInnis, G Mike Vernon, W Theoren Fleury, W Jarome Iginla, D Mark Giordano

Superficial Analysis

  • Color scheme: Though the logo contains a hefty amount of red, the jersey’s are mostly centered around the always eye-pleasing blue/white combination with a nifty pinstripe on the home uniforms which looks clean and distinctive
  • Nickname coolness: If somebody out there can explain to me the coolness of naming your team after a baby bear (ESPECIALLY considering the football team in the same city is named after full-grown adult bears), I’m all ears but just know that this may be the toughest sell of your life

The ‘Tude Dude’s Opinion

  • Though its most recognizable characteristic was an eye-popping 108 year championship drought (ended mercifully in 2016), perhaps the most underlying quality of the Chicago Cubs is their effective stance as baseball’s “darlings” instilling a broad sense of hope that resonates loudly among their fans. Stooped in tradition at every turn (from the ivy attached to the outfield walls in Wrigley Field to the “W” flags flown by their faithful followers after a win), the Cubs provide a true comfortability to their city

  • Historic associates: W Mike Gartner, W Peter Bondra, G Olaf Kolzig, W Alexander Ovechkin, C Nicklas Backstrom
